Fine article that addresses how to recover our humanity in a caring profession. The author ascribes the loss of shared humanity in the doctor-patient relationship to the hidden curriculum in med schools. In addition, the push and pressure of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, productivity and profits under specter of audits by authorities (aka government and insurance companies) suck the blood from the heart of the doctor-patient relationship.
