CSD organizers are planning to whisk guests away to the mystical Land of Oz for the 19th Annual Elk Grove GIANT Pumpkin Festival, October 5-6, from 10 am to 5 pm at Elk Grove Regional Park.The 1939 film, Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2014. Organizers and participating businesses have begun planning for a weekend filled with pumpkins and scarecrows and fun…oh my!Vendors, sponsors, and volunteers are currently being sought. And activities and attractions have begun to take shape. Returning favorites with an OZ spin include:They Could Squish a Witch…GIANT Pumpkins!Witches beware! Weighing in at nearly one ton, some of the state’s biggest pumpkins grace the festival scales on Saturday morning.Those aren’t flying monkeys…It’s the Pumpkin Regatta!A race between pumpkin boats across Strauss Lake. The paddles will be poised for the 7th annual showdown on Sunday at Noon.Munchkinland Offers Fun for KidsMagical activities abound at the Festival. Kids can explore two children’s areas with carnival games, a pumpkin patch, inflatable attractions, hay maze and more.Scarecrows Over the RainbowFashion an entry honoring your favorite OZ inhabitants in the festival’s scarecrow contest and you could earn more than just sparkly slippers. Taste a New Attraction, My PrettiesThe heart of the Festival happens to be pretty tasty too. A new Taste of Pumpkin experience will appear debut in 2013 pairing non-profit groups and local food service establishments to offer a delectable bite of pumpkin deliciousness. It Takes Courage, Smarts, and Heart to Produce a Great FestivalFestival sponsors, vendors and volunteers help make the Festival a magical experience every year. Organizers invite you to become part of the 2013 Festival. Vendor applications and volunteer opportunities are posted on the District web site at yourcsd/pumpkinfestival.
