First Bank Nig. Plc (since 1894) prides itself as the leading bank - TopicsExpress

First Bank Nig. Plc (since 1894) prides itself as the leading bank in Nigeria. I do not dispute that assertion since it weathered through the storm during the turbulent years of consolidation and mergers and came out unscathed. It stood kakaraka among all the other banks. I have a concern though which bothers on its online transaction. Recently, my e-mail account has been inundated with countless e-mails from the FirstBank Online Technical Team. I have also just received another of their e-mails captioned, ‘FirstBank Online! Security Request Case: #413388’ notifying me that a request was received from me to terminate my First Bank Online Account. As a matter of fact, I’m told that the process has already started by the First Bank Internet/Technical Team and the account would be closed under 12 working hours. In order to avoid this happening, I am required to update my account for security by following a link that has been provided. Prior to this case, I received a payment purportedly made by one generous Nigerian resident in faraway Saudi Arabia. All I needed to do was to provide my log-in details and I will see the amount paid into my account. How generous? Till date I have received uncountable number of scam mails that seemed to have originated from the FirstBank Online team. Twice, I have tried to verify the sources of these mails and on both occasions they have failed the Spam Test. What it means is that, First Bank Nig. Plc has an Online Banking System that is not secured and therefore easily accessed by scammers and hackers. First Bank surely needs help before serious damage is done to its clients. This action by the scammers is what is known as Phishing. Phishing is the act of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. These mails could originate from popular social websites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT Administrators and are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. This is what has been happening to the FirstBank Online system and something needs to be done to arrest this problem. I applied for a First Bank online access since almost three years ago and I never received any acknowledgement that my request had been processed. All I am getting in return are generous ‘payments’ from unknown sources. I never knew that Manna was still falling from heaven.
