First Grade is still looking for a Semi-final place and a win against Marist Brothers will help with this. Taking on the Brothers on KSS the Bar batted first. After a shaky start, Michael Warburton got stuck into the bowlers and showed why he is still a very classy first grade batsman. He scored a fantastic maiden first grade century and joins the elite group who have done this. He partnered Brett Crawford, Abe Crawford and Kent Shay to get the Bar to a respectful 250. The Brothers are now 1/18. The Bar will have to bowl well and tight on Saturday if they are to get over the line. Good luck boys. Second Grade went back to Mullum/Bruns for a 2 day match. Bowling first the Bar we able to take a strangle hold on the match with Mark Grant (4 wickets), James McDonald and Col Earl all bowling superbly to keep the home side at bay, all out for 131. The Bar are now batting with Peter Leeson and Duncan Elphick at the crease and the game in the balance with the visitors 4/60 odd. With batting in the shed still to come let’s hope the Bar can get a win up this close to semi’s. Third Grade played against the strong competition leaders, the Lennox Buccaneers at Williams Reserve. Bowling first the Bar struggled to keep the runs to a minimum and the Buccaneers posted 286. There were glimpses of great bowling with Alan Lane keeping it tight at one end with 1/27 off 8 and Danny Stephenson with 1/ not many and bowling with good pace. But poor catching and some lucky hitting by the Lennox side made it hard the Bar to chase. The Buccaneers bowled well from the start and the Bar needed a hero with the bat. David Thick tried and scored 22 before getting out. After the middle order failed Alan Lane met Freeman Goldsworthy (under 16’s) for a long partnership where Al scored 48 and top scored. The Bar only managed 145. Fourth Grade played at the home of cricket, Chickiba and is very much in the hunt for a semi-finals appearance. Bowling first the Bar got a few early wickets with Brian Powick claiming 2/38, Peter Freer with 2/ 29, Lance Bayliss 2/ 18 and Bailey Crawford with 2/18. Byron Bay left the Bar with 217 to win. Peter Freer started the run chase in a positive light scoring a quick 25 and looked in form, Lance Bayliss (52) and Tim Hughes (28) combined in the middle but the tail couldn’t wag enough and the Bar managed 152 in reply.
