First Iftaar after 3 years at home. Somehow from 2010 on wards, - TopicsExpress

First Iftaar after 3 years at home. Somehow from 2010 on wards, missed all Ramadans in Dhaka, Bangladesh, due to being in UK. Different feeling here. Its always been much more than a religious month for this nation. Its become so inculcated in our national culture. All the fancy Iftaars items, this is quintessentially a Bangladeshi trait. Haleem, Jilaapi, Doi Bora etc are made elsewhere too. But nowhere are those of such taste as in Bangladesh during Ramadan. On top of that, every Dhakaite knows about the rush of going home before Iftaar. The rush, the congestion, the chilla-chilli, hurahuri all made worth it when you reach home and have your favourite childhood dishes with your loved ones after many hours of fasting. Even a rickshaw puller wants to go home and have their Iftaar together with his loved ones. First day of Ramadan always held a special meaning. That of a fun filled month, apart from being the month of abstinence. Why do we even try to emulate Saudi and other foreign cultures? When our own socio-religious culture has always been so much more tolerant, sophisticated and liberal? On that thought, happy eating everyone. Dont overdo it
