First Warn Forecast: January 1, 2015. .Happy New Year. .Today look for a mix of clouds and sun with highs in the mid to upper 30s. Tonight mostly cloudy skies are expected with lows in the upper 20s. .Our weather system for the weekend is looking more and more like a rain event instead of a wintry mix event. At this point, given the trend of a warmer model solution in the majority of the models. Have pulled wintry mix from the forecast...At least for now. Friday look for a mostly cloudy sky with moisture building into the region by late afternoon... Highs in the upper 30s. Friday night look for rain, perhaps a wintry mix in the Columbia Mo area and areas along and north I-70. Areas south of this line will likely rain all rain. Temperatures aloft will be warmer and unable to support the wintry mix, except in the area, I just mentioned. Surface temperatures will be in the lower 30s, so we could experience some freezing scenarios on the bridges and overpasses. I dont want to completely disregard the wintry mix over the area, but as of now the warm front will be along and north of I-70 Friday night keeping the wintry mix north of this line and the just plain rain south of this line. .Saturday look for rain to be with us through the day...Highs in the lower 40s will take the wintry mix line to a NE MO to Central IL line... Look for the precipitation to wind down by the evening with a rain/snow mix developing over the region--at this point, it is a slight chance this will happen, but depending on the speed and moisture availability still left once the cold air is able to punch through the warm air mass, will be dependent on this forecast. Lows in the upper 20s for Saturday Night. .Sunday look for a mix of clouds and sun and highs near 30. Lows in the teens. Monday look for sunshine and highs in the mid 20s and lows in the upper teens. Monday night a clipper system will approach at this point confidence is too low to warrant precipitation mentions...But we could see some precip. from this system if moisture availability increases.. Tuesday look for a mix of clouds and sun compliments of this clipper... Highs in the lower 30s. Lows in the teens. .Wednesday is all about sunshine and cold. Highs in the lower 20s. Stay tuned on this forecast for Friday -Saturday as I will review new data and make modifications as needed. It truly remains an interesting storm, with variable dynamics in play.
