First Warn Forecast: Tuesday, December 23, 2014. .Complicated Forecast on Tap... .Today we are between systems, so I am optimistic that we will see some sun today with dry conditions expected over the region..However, more clouds and a slight chance of rain over SE MO and SO IL is possible...Temperatures should climb nicely into the upper 40s to lower 50s... .Tonight our next system will approach and here is where things get more complicated and complex in regards to several pieces of the forecast... Rain will move in tonight and slowly change from liquid to a wet sloppy snow overnight into Wednesday...This transition will occur from north to south... Lows tonight in the mid 30s. .Christmas Eve look for rain to change to wet snow across the region... The question here is how much snow...As of now, mainly from STL Metro to Farmington-Chester-Perryville- 1-3 of snow with higher amounts possible... South-West-North of this line significantly lesser amounts are expected-- up to 1. Now, these numbers will likely change where the heavier band sets up ... We know that it will set up...Exact location is still in question... .Temperatures for Wednesday will be in the mid 30s and falling... Snow will be with us through the afternoon... Snow will be heavy at times and it will be a wet snow so expect a sloppy mess across the area... Good news is that most of the snowfall accumulation will occur on the grassy and elevated surfaces due to the warm ground... Snow will come to an end on Christmas eve with lows near freezing. .More on this storm system in a special weather statement in just a bit. .Christmas Day is sunny and dry with highs again back into the mid 40s and lows in the upper 30s. Friday look for a progressive increase in clouds through the day with highs in the lower 50s... Rain and possibly snow mix will develop late Friday into Saturday...Lows Friday night in the mid 30s and highs on Saturday in the upper 30s... Will need to keep an eye on this storm especially over SE MO and SO IL...But for now, not looking overly impressive... .Sunday is sunny and dry with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the upper 20s... Monday a mix of clouds and sun with highs near 40... Longer range models are wanting to draw in arctic air by midweek and into the new year.... This also brings in the increasing threat of wintry precipitation.. NGP #mowx #ilwx #winterwx #winter #christmaseve #firstwarn #nickpalisch #snow
