First of all, let me preface what Im going to say with this: Im not writing this so people can say what a wonderful person you are or what a wonderful thing you did, etc. What Im about to say hopefully will raise peoples awareness and spurn them on to do what I did. Last night on my way to dinner with a friend I saw someone begging for change. I offered the individual a few dollars, but they said, rather than give them money, would I take them into Five Guys (which was right behind us) and buy them a hamburger. I replied that I would be more than happy to do that and proceeded to take them in and buy them a full meal. I also gave them the change from the $20 and asked them whether there was anything else I could do for them. The individual was very grateful and said that they hope to be in the position someday to help someone else in the same fashion I helped them. I hope that too. My companion said that this was a real eye-opener for her. She told me that too often in the hustle and bustle of the City one ceases to notice and/or care about those less fortunate than themselves. She told me that in the future, she too, would reach out to those less fortunate than herself. Poverty and hunger are a great problem in this country. I know I cant help everyone, although I wish I could, but if I help one person and another person helps another person, we can all chip away at this problem. So, if you see and are approached by someone who is needy, open your hearts and your wallets and buy them a meal or help them out in any way you can. It will make them feel better and you will too.
