Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) Experiment with science this summer on FATV FITCHBURG — What happens when you dissolve M&M and Skittles candies in a bowl of water? Did you know you can mix glue, water, and soap to form a gooey ball? When cornstarch and water mix together they form a solid, but then they can melt into a liquid right in your hands. These are a few of the experiments Michael Koski, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) specialist for the Fitchburg Public Schools, demonstrates for viewers in the summer science series. The series’ eight episodes began broadcasting on FATV last week. Viewers can see Koski and Kim Bellio, Advanced Academic Learning Initiative coach from the Fitchburg Public Schools, use simple household items to help students of all ages learn more about science through exploration and hands-on science. These shows are broadcast on the Educational Channel for Fitchburg Access Television, Channel 9 for Comcast customers and Channel 36 for Verizon FIOS customers. The series can also be viewed on demand at fatv.org. “We hope that these experiments, which students can do at home, will cause them to look more closely and wonder more deeply about the world around them. These experiments are designed to extend science learning into the summer,” Koski said. He and Bellio also include some students from the Fitchburg Public Schools to help them explore scientific concepts. Episodes are 20 minutes long and include all the directions families need to do these same experiments at home.
