Five armed teens steal kitten! JANESVILLE, Iowa. | Five teenagers have been taken into custody for allegedly taking a kitten from a home over the weekend. One of the suspects was carrying a shotgun during the crime, according to police. “The shotgun wasn’t used against anyone, but it was present,” said Officer Glenn Beenblossom with the Janesville Police Department. Court records state the shotgun remained inside a case. Police found both the kitten and a gun case containing the shotgun. Police said it wasn’t clear if any other property had been taken from the home. According to court records, police were called to a report that three males, one carrying the cased weapon, had entered a home at 1005 Sycamore St. at about 8:22 p.m. Saturday and then left with a tub that was emptied into a car’s trunk. The car then drove off. Janesville officers found the vehicle with two people in Janesville, and further investigation led to four other teens at Black Hawk Park outside Cedar Falls. The driver, Jessica Kay Burkhardt, 19, of Waterloo, was arrested for second-degree burglary. She was released from jail the following day. Four juveniles -- Alex Dempster, 17, and Alexander Rodriguez, 17, both of Cedar Falls, Dylan Hoffert, 16, of Waterloo, and Kari Stock, 14, of Dysart -- were also taken into custody for second-degree burglary, police said. Police said the suspects were acquainted with the victim.
