Food for thought (5) Knowing Allahs names, in the true and proper sense, entails being and being a manifestation of that given divine name. Traditions prescribe us to incorporate and manifest His names. Allah is all-patient, all-generous, all-forgiving...we too have this potential. It is the goal. However, in order to succeed in manifesting a given divine attribute, a number of prerequisites must be accomplished and with each name, the prerequisites and conditions to success differ. Its not just about verbally regurgitating an invocation, at x hour, y number of times, for z weeks etc. This is part of the formula. If this alone sufficed, then that would be on a par with magic, and there is no abracadabra in Islam. One of Allahs names is al-muntaqim (The Avenger) i.e. the Avenger against those who deviate and oppress. Do you want to manifest this divine name? do you want to avenge the oppressors? There are conditions to incorporating this name. Its not easy. In this regard, the urafa have said: concerning one who desires to seek this name, they must never oppress anyone and must never permit oneself to execute any form of wrongdoing and badness that goes against the right of any creature. Moreover, to the extent that is feasible, one must display beneficence (ihsaan) to all creatures....
