Food for thought: If you say you love your children, please take necessary action to provide for potential long-term health care. Make sure you acquire supplemental medicare insurance, purchase long-term healthcare insurance, etc. If you dont, the burden you put on your children is incredibly unfair, and they may have no choice but to place you in a facility that is less than desirable. You may think that its a waste of money and that you wont need it but you dont know the future, and it can happen at any time. The cost of nursing homes (even assisted living) is astronomical, especially if your loved one needs memory care for dementia, Alzheimers, etc. Memory care can double the cost. Make sure you have a plan and a person(s) in place to handle your affairs in case you are unable. These things need to be discussed way ahead of time. They should not be figured out in time of crisis. Dont think of it as being unpleasant. It is a act of love to be prepared.
