For 11 years, Niko lived with his elderly female owner in harmony. We’re told he’s a wonderful dog—good with children, other dog, likes slow walks, is housetrained, hides during storms, and is protective of his person. Certainly his behavioral eval reflects that description—he aced it earning a coveted Average rating. But Niko developed an abscess on his leg and his owner couldn’t afford vet care. She apparently took him to a vet when the abscess became infected but couldn’t afford the care (possibly leg amputation) she was told he needed. ACC can think of nothing to do except put Niko on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Tonight this little old guy needs someone out there who can get him to a real good vet to figure out the best course of treatment, to give him a safe haven to recover from what treatment is appropriate and to help him recover from the trauma of losing the only world and the only person he’s known for 11 years. In return, Niko will give a gazillion doggie kisses, always bring a smile on your face and will be so very happy to finally feel better. If you can do that, then start working on fostering or adopting Niko. But you have to act now—ACC has already decided that he’s got to go and tomorrow at noon, they’ll make him gone forever.
