For Maryland policy/politics buffs, some recent items from my Free State Notes blog: * The IRS targeting scandal has a local angle in that it touches the actions of Reps. Chris Van Hollen and Elijah Cummings. Why isnt the Maryland press on it? * Robert Broaduss Protect Marriage Maryland is so intensely hostile toward gays (abomination, etc.) as to be shunned by many other social conservative groups. Yet 25 candidates who will appear on the November Maryland ballot, including two Democrats, actually solicited and got its endorsement. Talk about bad judgment; * Per Vox, Rep. Andy Harriss funding rider meant to block decriminalization of marijuana in the District of Columbia was so poorly drafted that it might inadvertently legalize it instead; * Catering to NIMBY concerns, Rep. Van Hollen and other prominent liberals are resisting a high-density development proposal in Takoma Park, and some New Urbanist/anti-sprawl progressives are criticizing them for that.
