For any parent that has ever lost sight of their child, for the briefest moment, in a mall, a store, a theme park or any other circumstance, you know the intense inner dialogue of, Where are you?! How do I find you?! There is a sense of panic and urgency. FEAR, LOSS and HELPLESSNESS! Dimentia/Alzheimers is the same thing without the panic of physical location. That is a matter of geography. The fight for where is the mind is just as intense. How do I reach what I cannot see? How can I make a connection and understand where you are? You want to beg them to come back! You want them to know you! You want them to know that they are loved! You WANT...... YOU want.... THEY EXIST... in the moment. It is all they have. Personality is only glimpsed. Manners are almost an instinctual behavior. A horror. A nightmare of being buried alive. We would endure pain in order to assure our own kids live carefree, but that decision is taken away with this disease. Mom, I LOVE YOU!
