For me, I by far prefer from scratch Refried Beans! Mexican restaurants sometimes use powdered beans and they may contain lard, which Id rather not have. I cook two cups of dry Pinto Beans in Chicken Broth till tender. Then I move the beans to my cast iron skillet and hand mash them as they simmer on low. As they do, I season with salt and pepper to taste. Ive eaten beans all my life and often prefer them over meat. Simple is often better!!!
