For the umpteenth time, I heard a non-veteran talk about the rigidity of the veteran mindset. After seeing both sides of the fence, I find this patently untrue. From a squad leader scratching out a plan of attack in the dirt with a stick to joint planning among different branches of service for major operations, Ive seen a level of flexibility and adaptability thats unparalleled in the arenas of the civilian world that Ive experienced. The military requirement to plan and execute rapidly requires an ability to think outside the box. If you share the opinion that veterans are lock step automatons, reconsider. The only inflexibility that I see common to vets is in their pursuit and desire to win. If youre ever in a position to do so, hire a vet. Youll know what Im talking about.
