For your perusalTAH DAH The Federal Pier at the foot of Sabino Head. The porch of the house in the foreground appears in the movie Message in a Bottle and the camera was apparently set up on the granite monument marking the site of the Popham Colony that was dedicated by none other that Joshua Chamberlain some 70 years before Dr. Brain (bless his little flatlander heart) announced that he had discovered the actual site of the first English settlement in New England. He could have saved himself the search and just asked pretty much any local. Just out of the picture to the left is the not-so-famous-anymore authentic Viking rune stone of post card fame and somewhere underneath are the caves that resonate loudly when walked over (or so the story goes, because Ive never found them). The house in the corner at the right is that of the late and dearly missed Jane Stevens of One Mans World fame. The third major pier at Popham can clearly be seen although its name escapes me at the moment. Anyone? Sadly, it looks these days as though even the Federal Pier isnt long for this world, but this photo was taken when it was young and strong!
