Foreign Intrigue leads the Huffington Post. On 06 August 2014 Eric Jones and Foreign Intrigue published a brief piece entitled Fracture Points (Eastern Europe). In this piece, Jones objective is to identify both the catalysts of the conflicts (in and around Eastern Ukraine, southward to Moldova, and into the Caucasus) and to provide understanding for how they may intensify and evolve into open warfare. To facilitate this, Jones identifies five specific fracture points: geographical areas and regions that occupy space along important lines of demarcation or fissure points between the two belligerents and represent geostrategically important terrain straddling the two competing sides of the conflict. These five regions are: •Transnistria (Moldova) •Crimea (Ukraine/Russia) •Abkhazia (Georgia- breakaway region) •South Ossetia (Georgia- breakaway region) •Nagorno-Karabakh (Armenia/Azerbaijan) Jones states that he will address each of these regions in following papers (The first, on South Ossetia, was completed and sent to the site SOFREP prior to this piece having appeared on Foreign Intrigue, where it awaits publication according to SOFREPs schedule). Finally, Jones provides links to eleven separate full-length original analytical articles on the region, six of which were published as early as December 2013, continuing through July 2014. On 07 August 2014, twenty-four hours after the Fracture Points piece appeared at Fi, the Huffington Post published a piece entitled Why the World Map Looks Different to Russians. The author, Nick Robins-Early, presents a brief history of Russias post-Soviet land grabs. These are the places that make the map of the world look different to Russians. He highlights five regions: 1. South Ossetia 2. Abkhazia 3. Transnistria 4. Nagorno-Karabakh 5. Crimea For international relations, foreign policy, and security analysis ahead of everyone else, follow Foreign Intrigue here or at foreign-intrigue.
