Former AFC Leopards striker Boniface Ambani has challenged his former club to carry out a massive clear out and sign players who will push the club to greater heights. Ingwe are currently 12th on the KPL standings two places above the relegation zone, but Ambani observes that Leopards should be among the league contenders and should not be struggling to remain in Kenyas top flight football. -Leopards is a big club in Kenya and they should be up there contesting for the league title and not down the table fighting relegation. Financial stability -Leopards players are very lucky that unlike most KPL sides, the club is not struggling financially, they have a sponsor who pays players salaries on time, why shouldnt they be in contention for the league title? he posed. -In my own assessment, there are many players at the den who are not hungry enough, they are in a comfort zone where their salaries are paid without having to sweat much, thats not healthy for a club of Leopards stature, Ingwe is a big team, players need to up their game and deliver or ship out, he added. -In Kenya when a team isnt performing, the coach or the management is always used as the scapegoat, it has always been the case at Leopards, but its time for the playing unit to take responsibility. A new office was elected last year, there has been a change in the coaching staff too but the results are still not good enough it only means that the problem lies with the players, he added. Time to wield the axe -There also a number of players who are not helping the team, the same people are always ready for a go slow whenever their is any delay in their salaries or bonuses. Its either they have lost interest in the game or they simply do not care. -The management should wake up and do an assessment of each and every player, they should only retain players who will help the team forge forward, the rest should be dropped. -They should go out there and sign players who have the hunger to succeed and assemble a team that will propel the club to greater heights. Playing for Leopards comes with pride and playing for Ingwe means giving 100% in each and every match, he concluded. Ambani played for AFC Leopards, Yanga in Tanzania, the now defunct Oserian Fastac. He also had professional stints abroad before finally hanging his boots.
