Fort Belvoir implemented gate access policy changes last week, to be in compliance with Department of Defense and Army directives and to ensure the community’s safety and security. All non-Department of Defense ID card holders must come through the visitors center at Tulley Gate to access the installation. DOD ID card holders are encouraged to go through any other gate. To gain access to the installation, visitors need to bring a federally recognized photo ID with them to the visitors center. This upgrade to Fort Belvoirs security posture has been in the works for a while, before its implementation last week. The change coincides with the future implementation of the Automated Installation Entry system (AIE). When that comes online, officials expect traffic congestion to be reduced. We strongly suggest, to everyone who thinks they need to regularly come on the installation, to request a 30-day pass from the visitors center. This will help with access control and hopefully reduce lines and wait times. People who work or volunteer on Fort Belvoir should get sponsored by their organizations. Instead of every 30 days, sponsored personnel can get a pass for up to six months, which allows them to enter other gates, if they’re in a privately owned vehicle. If you car- or vanpool, the Trusted Traveler program is still in effect. Someone in the vehicle with a DOD ID card can vouch for others in the vehicle who have a photo ID of any kind.
