Four years ago this weekend was Easter. We had just moved to Ayden that week, but went back to Wendell at Charity FWBC. All but two of our immediate family was there that day. James preached his last sermon that Easter Sunday in March. The church had a fellowship dinner for him that day. He was very weak, had lost a lot of weight and on heavy meds for his cancer. He had taken Morphine just before we got to the church. He wasnt due more of Morphine for six hours. He had another med to take at 11:00. He got confused and took the wrong med, he took Morphine. A double dose by accident. He came to me just before 11:00 and told me how he had gotten the med mixed up. Several things flooded my mind at that time. An overdose of Morphine to a man that one Benadryl would put him out for two days. I was afraid of the OD, it was time for church to start and he already was extremely weak. I ask him what he wanted to do, he replied with no hesitation I am going to preach the word. No one was aware of what had happen except our immediate family. Of course we all began to pray harder for God to hold him up and fill him with His Spirit that day. And He did. He filled him with the Holy Spirit and he preached one of his best sermons that day. Thank you again Lord. When James came down from the pulpit he almost fell into my lap. But he preached the Word as God held him high. I miss him more today than yesterday or last year or before. But I am so thankful for our 52+ years, 46 in the ministry, and the many, many Precious Memories I have to reminisce over an over. I love you James, Dad and the Lord.(my dad past away 10 days before James)
