Free Refills? Hey this is the Chaplain again. You know now days most restaurants will give you ‘Free Refills’ of your drink when you order a meal; but that wasn’t always the case. When I was younger a lot of times you would have to pay for a refill on your coke or coffee. So I would always look for that sign in the window – FREE REFILLS. Another time that I want a refill is when it’s really hot outside and I’m working in the yard. My wife will bring me a glass of iced tea but she knows one won’t be enough; I’ll need a refill. You know there is one place you can always get a free refill - that is the Lord Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 5:18 we’re told to be “filled with the Holy Spirit.” And the meaning there is a continual filling, or re-filling; an ongoing process of being spiritually filled. If you’re anything like me your spiritual bucket has a hole in it and our ‘filling’ leaks out more quickly, and more often, than we would like to admit. So we are in the need of that continual, ongoing filling. In the Gospel of John Jesus told us “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Does anyone believe in me? Then, just as Scripture says, streams of living water will flow from inside him.” (7:37-38) And in the book of Revelation we hear Him say “Is anyone thirsty? Come! All who will, come and drink, drink freely of the Water of Life!” (22:17) May I ask, would you like a refill? I hope you would – I hope you realize your need for that continual refilling. I also want you to know the refills are always free with Jesus. Maybe that’s something for you to pray about.
