Friday 14th June – Time to catch up with a few appointments! 9.30 a.m. - Hairdresser’s – Must look smart for those weekend mayoral engagements! 11.00 a.m. - Optician’s – Yes, both pairs of glasses do need changing! Also I’ve decided to ditch the “shades” and have clear lenses so that people can actually see my face when I’m out mayoring - I don’t want to appear like a celebrity trying to look “cool”! 12.00 noon – Solicitor’s – Went to sign some documents for Enduring Power of Attorney. Needed to provide for relatives to manage my affairs should I become incapable – hopefully not yet! – but I understand it can cause a lot of aggravation and expense if you don’t make these arrangements while still of sound mind! Must be thinking about my Will next! I spent the afternoon having a long chat with my sister Kathleen on the phone. She lives in Harrogate and is in very poor health so I try to ring each week for a big catch-up! As often we got talking about tennis – she’s a Federer fan whilst my hero is Rafael Nadal! Hadn’t had much time to eat all day so treated myself to a Chinese take-away early tea-time. I was picked up before 6.00 p.m. by my friend Kathryn who was taking me on a visit to her choir rehearsal – Red Rose Recovery Choir – at Maundy Relief. They describe themselves as “a Lancashire-wide singing group made up of people actively promoting recovery – We sing, we smile, we laugh, we love!” The leader and several of the members were on holiday but I met Kerry, Jackie and Emily and even did a bit of singing myself! I hope to attend one of their gigs sometime or even find them an event myself! They are very positive people who are getting to grips with their own issues and going out encouraging others to do the same. I spent the rest of the evening watching recorded telly – “Holby City” and an old episode of “Wire in the Blood” - before getting off to bed reasonably early to prepare for my busy mayoral weekend!
