Friday’s Opens have been very popular with visitors lately and this weekend was no exception. The warm weather brought visitors from all over the country enjoying our links. The competition was won by JJ Morgan who was in Sligo for the weekend from Co Armagh G.C. Playing off 9 he came in with a fantastic 41pts to win from Martin McGowan from Carrick On Shannon G.C. on a BOT. Third spot went to Darragh Connolly from Castle Dargen Golf Club with 40pts. Saturdays Elanco V Par was a close affair with little seperating the top 4 players. The winner was Jim Kenehan who’s winning score came on the back nine when he reeled off 4 wins from 14 to 17 and even a loss at the last was enough to take the competition from Noel Dykes who managed the same 4 up but didn’t have as good a back nine as Jim. Bernard Tully came in third. Sundays Elanco Stableford was played in more glorious sunshine with most of the members enjoying the course in its fantastic condition in shorts. Playing early and avoiding the midday heat worked out to Jimmy Kiernan’s advantage as he took the competition with an excellent 41 points. Jimmy played a steady front 9 with 22 points and then reeled off 4 pars and a birdie on 16 just for good measure. Jimmy obviously learned a thing or two from his low handicap partners Adrian Wynne and Chris Kilcullen. Runners up spot was a tight affair with Pat McManus just edging out Eamon Haran on a BOT after both men had 39pts each.
