Friday’s Porterville Art Walk will showcase a mix of talent as artists attempt to raise the roof, and possibly a spirit or two, with its Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Halloween-themed reception at Don Vino’s Restaurant. The reception is slated to begin at 5 p.m. and includes poetry, themed readings, music, art vendors, altar installations and, Art Walk director Diego Gutierrez Monterrubio says, has “ghouls galore at this once a year art and amusement extravaganza.” There is also a morning art walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Porterville Public Library, which features artists from the Porterville College Art Club. Featured artists this year include Sandra Valencia, Zack Carpentar, Linda Hinojosa, Porterville College Art Club, Isauro Guillen, Jr., Joey “Chopper Joe” Gilpin, Mary Ann Newsom, Zeke Jaggers, and DJ Freddie. In addition, the Porterville Art Association will have a Christmas Boutique; Calico Mermaid will feature Terry Henry, a glass artist who has studied in Murano, Italy, with a collection of beads, jewelry and glass pieces; and Imagine Community Art Center will have ceramic work on display, paintings by Rebecca Ybarra and free Henna-work by Sarbi Gill. Those attending are encouraged to wear costumes and/or Dia de los Muertos face painting!!
