Friends, Im trying again.... The gorgeous little ball of fluff in these pictures is Scruffy. Scruffy is a handsome, sweet, loving, affectionate, smart, well behaved little man between 9 and 12 months old. He is of the noble and fairly rare Norwegian Forest Cat breed. If you dont know much about Norwegian Forest Cats, heres an article that tells you all about them.... petfinder/cat-breeds/Norwegian-Forest-Cat The main characteristics to point out, to me at least, is that theyre very affectionate cats, theyre extremely athletic, they love to play, they live to be loved on/petted and theyre very passive and non-violent (they almost always choose to run and hide rather than fight). Theyre also very low key - they dont stress out easily. Scruffy was a stray cat that used to come by now and then to get fed on our back porch. We believe he belonged to someone here in the complex that abandoned him when they moved out. His early days on his own must have been pretty brutal, because he would sometimes show up wounded. He would wolf down food at lightning speed until he choked, probably because he had no hunting skills and no idea where his next meal was coming from. He was so skittish we couldnt get near him to even try to pet him. Just looking at him the wrong way would send him off into the woods are near ultra-sonic speeds! But, slowly and gradually, he got more comfortable with us (particularly me for some reason) and started living on our back porch full time. We tried to coax him into coming inside many, many, many times, but he was just too timid. Im sure the fact that Trigger (our male cat), who had a habit of running at full speed and crashing himself into the glass trying to get at poor little Scruffy, didnt help matters much. Ever since it started getting chilly, Ive been trying to find Scruffy a good home via Facebook, but Ive had no luck. Weve also been calling around trying to find a no kill shelter, but we cant find a shelter that wont put him down after 3-14 days if he isnt adopted - and thats just unacceptable. The really good shelters that are truly no kill are completely full and dont have the room. In fact, we have two offices of the animal rescue league (Dedham and Boston) that were calling on a daily basis to see if they have an open slot for him. I cant let such a sweet, beautiful, innocent, affectionate creature die for no reason, so the ASPCA/Norwood Animal Control just isnt an option. Besides, there have to be a million homes that would be made whole with the addition of Scruffy to the family. Its just a matter of making the connection. Anyway, when it started to get really cold about 10 days ago, I brought him inside. Trigger and Little Girl were NOT happy about it. Since then weve been waiting for these creatures to work it out between themselves, but its not happening. The other cats, specifically Trigger, just plain hate Scruffy. I have no idea why, but they do. Trigger is constantly growling at him, hissing at him, attacking him, chasing him, cornering him, tormenting him, etc. Little Girl isnt physical about it, but shes no less a bully and a harasser when it comes to poor little Scruff-a-doo. As it stands now, Scruffy is living in protective custody in out guest bedroom. His littler, food and water are in there and the door stays closed and the light stays on. Even still, Trigger and Little Girl take shifts sitting in front of his door waiting for a change to chase him under the bed, behind the sofa, under the dining room table, etc. Its sad and I feel terrible for Scruffy. The only affection/interaction the little guy ever gets right now is the couple of times per day that I go spend time with him in the guest room, or when I bring him into the living room to sit on my lap for a while on the sofa (the others dont dare mess with him when hes in my lap, but they do stare and growl and wait for their chance to attack). Ive never seen anything like the way poor little Scruffy is tormented by these two cretins. All the cats have their own food bowls, naturally, but they share water, litter box, toys, scratching posts, kitty condo, etc. But Trigger and Little Girl wont let Scruffy have access to water or litter or anything. They wont even let him be in the kitchen during feeding time. So, Scruffy needs his own stuff, and protection, hence the guest room solution. Scruffy is extremely chill and low key, but hes also extremely affectionate. He loves to be petted and when hes getting petted he gets so excited that he looks like hes going to jump out of his own skin from the sheer joy. And he purrs so hard you can feel everything from the top of his ear to the tip of his tail vibrating. Its adorable!!! We absolutely adore Scruffy. We dont want to give him. I must admit that Ive become especially attached to Scruffy because he looks to me for protection and weve bonded because of it. But realistically, we cant have this household upset like this any longer. Little Girl has been with me for several years and Trigger came to us several months before Scruffy, so were certainly not getting rid of them. And the other cats wont allow Scruffy to assimilate, so keeping all three of them isnt a viable option. So, unfortunately, that means Scruffy needs a new home. Scruffy would be perfect for a home with children, a single person, a retired couple - pretty much any family that would give him plenty of love and affection. Other animals, especially cats, are probably not a good idea. At least not fully grown cats. Kittens should be fine. We will be happy to take Scruffy to the vet and get him a full checkup and all his shots before delivering him to the right family. If you cant take a cat right now, could you please share this post on your wall so others can see it? Thanks so much! Russ Adams
