From Econesian Society Page: Research Assistant for work on Traditional Knowledge and Natural Resource Use The University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM), in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), is conducting research on local ecological knowledge and resilience to climate change in social-ecological systems. A research assistant is needed to assist a Ph.D student from UHM in conducting household surveys in villages of Vanua Levu. Surveys consist of questions about traditional knowledge, marine and terrestrial resource use, and household economics. Employment period is for 6 weeks from late July to early September 2013. A stipend will be provided, along with accommodation, travel, and meals. A postgraduate student (or recent graduate with degree/certificate) with a background in agriculture, marine science, fisheries, environmental science, climate change, or anthropology is sought. Eligible candidates must be highly self-motivated, confident, able to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds, and able to work both independently and as a member of a small team. Candidates must be fluent in the Fijian language. Strong academic background is important. Past field work experience is preferred. It may be possible for the chosen candidate to conduct some of their own research during field work. This is an excellent opportunity to gain field experience and build connections with a leading university in the Pacific.
