From left handed breast feeding activists in Rugely or airlines hijacked by angels in heaven to events in the Crimea.! Russian intervention into this peninsular was hardly an invasion. In this day and age world affairs with arbitrary borders and frontiers drawn up all over the globe its not that simple and in these circumstances this swiftly conducted referendum was the best option. Im quite sure sure if there had been any likelihood of the referendum result going the other way the US would have endorsed it hands down and besides if it was that hastily undemocratic then so were the sham elections monopolised by pro western Russsian oligarchs and EU candidates that have always been conducted in these ex Soviet satellite countries since the collapse of the USSR where Washington and London said nothing! It is solely because of these failed pro western neoliberal economics and the endemic corruption that has inevitably evolved that was the cause of the political instability in the Ukraine in the first place and I think BBC radio presenters when discussing this potentially dangerous global political situation should address these underlying causes with the professional politicians when guests and whom the majority are anxious for domestic political reasons to foment a new wave of Cold War hysteria to divert attention from their own.
