Funny thing I just remembered - I played football in elementary school (until 4th grade) as a fullback on offense and a safety on defense. It was funny because even as a 9-year-old kid, I had to make weight for my position by wearing a garbage bag while running laps around the field to dehydrate myself, and I was on a Slim Fast diet for several weeks to lose the weight in time. I think I lost almost 10 pounds doing that, made weight, and then gained it all back in the next few days. I dont know if they even allow that nowadays for kids that age, but at the time it was just sports and I remember not minding it at all. The coaches were all tough but great guys, and even today I appreciate the discipline and work ethic they taught me. I feel like society has lost a lot of that. We give out participation trophies and tell everyone theyre perfect just the way they are and that they dont ever have to change for anyone, which is sometimes good advice but is usually terrible advice and goes against human nature i.e. the desire for constant self-improvement and learning. Just a thought I had.
