GEMAZO 20 - 26 JUNE ISSUE CAPS’ DAVID CHIPALA FOR POLAND By Tatenda Makanda CAPS United defender David Chipala is set to join the Polish Liga 1 side in August. The rock steady defender has impressed the side in the videos sent to them by his handlers and they have declared their interest in him. The player will not need to undergo trials as the club was satisfied with what they saw on the videos of the player. Gemazo Blitz caught up with the player who was very excited about “finally realising his dream of playing in Europe” as his said the move is a sign of greater things to come. “I am very happy that I am going to play in Europe. It is every player’s dream to play in these lucrative European leagues one day. I have been really working hard for this all my life and I am being rewarded for my commitment,” Chipala said. The 25 year-old rearguard is expecting to leave for Poland in August to a club he refused to divulge for now as he said it might compromise the negotiations that are currently underway between his agent and the club. “If things go according to plan I will go to Poland this August. I was told by my agent that there is a Polish League 1 side that is interested in my services. I am not going there for trials but to join the club as I was told that the club is already impressed since they have been monitoring me and have been watching the videos of my games. I can’t tell you the name of the club at the moment as doing so might jeopardise the negations that are currently going on,” the defender said. Harrington Shereni’s young brother Patson, who is currently based in Poland is said to have facilitated the envisaged move. If the move materialises Chipala will join in the list of a number of Zimbabwean players who have played in Poland who include Prince Matore, Clement Matawu, Progress Musepa, Dickson Choto, Costa Nhamoinesu, Takesure Chinyama and others. Born and bred in Kadoma, Chipala started playing professional football for Division 1 side Eiffel Flats while he was still at in high school at Waverly High School. He finished high school in 2006 when he was spotted by Takaendesa Jongwe, then coach at CAPS FC which was formerly known as Buymore the team he joined in 2007 before he moved to Kiglon Bird in 2011. Kiglon Bird was however, relegated that same year before it became defunct forcing Chipala to pack his bags to find a new home at Division 1 side Hippo Valley where he stayed for two years before ending his romance with the side in 2013 to join CAPS United. He had helped Hippo Valley now known as Chiredzi United gain promotion into the top-flight league but however left for the greener pastures he had been promised by CAPS United owner Twine Phiri at the Green Machine.
