GENETICS OR ENVIRONMENT? As a mother of three children whose fathers are of three different ethnicities, I cant help but to compare and attempt to analyze my personal experience with that of my home country when it comes to debating problems related to heritage and ethnicities. I joke that I gave each of my children their cultures... My half black son is a rapper/musician; my daughter of native mix is a psychiatric RN still in med school full time~a medicene woman; and my all white son is a racist, abusive asshole. Funny but true. None of their fathers were involved with them nor present in their lives in the beginning and later in their lives, only distantly and sporadically. And one of the things I saw absolute proof of, was along with each if them inheriting physical traits from their fathers like their dads lips, eyes, noses... It was astounding to me to see each also have inherited personality traits like humor, attitude, mindset, disposition, including ethics and values! Body movements and mannerisms too, without doubt. With years of therapy under my belt, senior college level education, and doctor support, Ive recently cut off ties and communication with my all white 42 year old son directly due to his continuing abuse, lies, racism, and refusal to change or grow. When I set that boundary in place making it very clear to him why I chose to do this~directly due to his choices and the impact that had on me and my life~ I am still, and will forever be, perplexed when he responded with condemning me as invaluable on every level anyway because I was a nigger inside and a nigger lover. I told him to call his brother and tell his brother that... All of my kids were raised by me, in my home, influenced by the same family members, growing up in the same neighborhood with the same schools. Since childhood, he exhibited behavior portraying he felt better than, above others, and an entitlement owed him because he was white. Unlike his siblings, he refused participating in counseling or being open to any type of enlightenment or growth other than his basic school education and was never truly interested in much of that. His siblings have always sought further understanding and remain curious about things unknown to them and refrain from making judgement calls. And I question how deep does racism, and the need to control and abuse, run? Is it actually predetermined and embedded in the very DNA and genes of specific human beings just as other dominant genes beat out non dominant genes keeping traits like blue eyes and light skin continuing on irregardless of the mixing of genes and ethnicities that has already taken place in all of our ancestry? And does that conclude that the misconception, of a pure/thoroughbred bloodline that is better than all else, feeding this sickness and degradation of others something that will be forever present in life and evolvement of mankind? A mothers plea, a human beings worst fear.
