GOD help us, and CARMONA, and useless INTEGRITY COMMISSION: Gordon still awaiting response on Warner probe By ANDRE BAGOO Tuesday, April 15 2014 ABOUT four months after the Integrity Commission wrote to President Anthony Carmona calling for the establishment of a statutory tribunal to probe the declarations of income and assets of Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner, commission chairman Kenneth Gordon yesterday stated the commission is still awaiting the President’s response. Speaking at a corporate governance seminar hosted by the Ministry of Finance and the Economy at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain, Gordon gave updates on the commission’s work. “In the past 12 months the Integrity Commission has broken new ground in publishing 131 persons, seeking court orders against 13 persons and in accordance with Section 15 (of the Integrity in Public Life Act) calling on the President to appoint a tribunal to investigate one person who has failed to comply with the Integrity in Public Life Act,” Gordon said. “The commission now awaits the President’s response.” Gordon did not name Warner. However, in January, the commission announced it had called on the President to appoint a tribunal. Gordon also issued a call for civil society to tackle the problem of corruption. “There is no short-cut to making a serious impact on corrupt and dishonest behaviour,” the Integrity Commission chairman said. “It is a fact that too many in our fortunate country have developed an indiscipline where virtually anything goes once you can get away with it.” newsday.co.tt/news/0,193367.html
