GREAT OPPORTUNITY! There is an amazing opportunity for you to impact the lives of families in your community who have a child with a disability. Caring for a child with a disability comes with a great amount of stress- emotional, physical, and even spiritual. When asked what would help relieve their stress, many said things like If I could just have a few hours to myself, go grocery shopping, get some sleep, spend time with my spouse, exercise, go to church... After learning about the experience of these parents, The Butler County Board of Disabilities decided to create a community of compassion around these families so parents can have a few hours to recharge, refuel, unwind, and relax. This is done by working with local churches, businesses, schools, and community groups to create free PAUSE for Parents, PLAY for Kids events throughout Butler County where families can pre-register their kids and drop them off at a fun and safe place. In addition, for all volunteers who want to be a PAUSE buddy, BCBD provides a free nationally recognized training program called REST that will prepare volunteers to care and connect with individuals with disabilities and their families. Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles, including: © One-to-one Buddy for each child. © Registration table volunteers © Greeters © Activity station workers- crafts, music, and more © Snack and food prep workers If you do not have time to volunteer, you can help by: © Helping to find space to hold the events (i.e. churches, community centers, businesses) © Donating craft supplies and other consumables © Donating food © Donating toys, board games © Donating gift cards to give to parents when they drop of their children to restaurants, movies, etc). For more information about being a volunteer or to sign up to volunteer at the PAUSE Events on October 23 or November 6, please contact Scott Osterfeld or Jen Powers at [email protected] or [email protected].
