GREAT WALL OF CHINA progress shots: I have been saving vintage china pieces for my triptych for several years. The idea is to make each state from an item that represents something about the state. I traced the map from the one that used to be in my classroom at Mirman. They were thrown out when we got our smart boards. Texas is made from two McCoy cowboy planters, Mississippi has a southern belle doll that my grandmother gave me for my birthday when I was eight, the Kansas sunflowers were wind chimes, the pueblo in NM was a creamer, Washington was a plate made from Mt. St. Helene ash, the Idaho potato was a soup bowl, the Montana horse was a planter, and the sky (for big sky country) was from the dishes of Susan and Graham Nash who always save me their broken ceramics for art.
