Gallimaufry Although I have been fly fishing most of my life, I am not a good caster. The Rog and I are self taught and our instructors had absolutely no grasp of proper mechanics. We manage to catch fish because our typical fishing hardly ever requires a cast much past a couple of rod lengths. So I can usually cast well enough to get by, unless the fishing sucks and I start thinking about casting; then the wheels fall off and I am a total wreck. And at this point in my life (LMA) I dont look for any improvement. Ken was making fun of the clunky Redington reel on my 8 wt. saying I should replace it and I retorted that he was the one who advised me to purchase it. He sighed and said, That was twenty years ago! We each managed to land a fish today while wading a flat; Ken a nice red and me a modest trout. Both on at the same time. The only other fish we had a hook in was a needle fish I snagged on a water haul.
