Gambhir feels KKR have come a long way Wed, Apr 9, 2014 11:33 IST New Delhi: Leading a team co- owned by one of India’s leading Bollywood stars — Shah Rukh Khan — has its positives and negatives. While fans go overboard to celebrate Kolkata Knight Riders’ success, those very supporters leave no opportunity to criticise even one bad performance. But skipper Gautam Gambhir isn’t complaining and has enjoyed every moment of captaining KKR. And now, with the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League round the corner — starting from April 16 — Gambhir is focused on scaling new heights with his team.Speaking to Mail Today, Gambhir reiterated that while he is out of the national team, he would never use the cash-rich league as a platform to make a comeback into the national side.“I just want to try and help KKR win. I am looking at playing good cricket as a team and playing to our potential. I feel that KKR has come a long way from where it was in the first three years (when Gambhir took over as captain in the fourth edition) and hopefully we can build on what we have done in the last three years,” he said.Commenting on the composition of his side, Gautam said he is happy with the team KKR picked in the auction and added that he is looking at Morne Morkel to bowl to full potential and help the team win matches.“I am happy with the team we picked in the auction. While we bid heavily for Yuvraj Singh — as we felt we wanted someone like him in the middle-order — Virender Sehwag didn’t really fit into the scheme of things. As you know, I am not the lone person taking calls and there are others as well in the management. But I am really looking forward to Morne doing well and bringing in the X- factor. He is the toughest fast bowler that I have faced. I have also played Dale Steyn, Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar, but Morne is the best. If he can combine well with Sunil Narine, we can tame many teams,” he said. With the first-leg of the IPL being played in the UAE, Gambhir feels that it will be interesting as the concept of home advantage and away disadvantage won’t come into the picture.“I haven’t played in the UAE before this, so I am obviously excited. But more importantly, it will be even stevens when we take on Mumbai Indians as they wouldn’t have their home fans cheering for them. Mumbai are the defending champions, so it will be good to get done with them in the first match itself,” he said.
