Gambling - The second most popular game! It is deepavali time. Most of north India and also large parts of rest of India would be preparing for great gamble during the season. There are useless creatures, who live life as if their sole life mission is to find out wrong in possible everything. But it is better to see things the way they are. Its fun! Men love gambling! (Women too are great gamblers!). Basically we are great lovers of gambling. (some might not agree till the end). What is gambling? The first image that one gets with reference to gambling is cards (patta, ele) and it extends to horse race or cricket betting etc. They are all means of gambling. But what is gambling? Gambling is a Zero sum Game (Game theory). That means one partys loss is the other partys gain. There is no net gain in the game, nor loss either. If there is no loss/ no gain, then it is not erosion of wealth but redistribution of wealth. It is a very subtle game of universe. it is game of lakshmi - chanchale! Gambling as a game is fun. it is a no net loss -no net gain neutral game. But almost all religious texts and moral codes prohibit gambling. Why? Because, When one gambles. he gets into win-lose mode. i.e. the other should lose for me to win. Well, some might argue that it is the spirit of competition but the danger is hidden in the fact that gambling is a game of zero sum, which means it threatens universal sustainability, which stands on the principle of sarve janaah sukhino bhavantu Secondly, while gambling, one tends to live his life fully - attains a position, where he bets everything that he has for that one moment - Thats real beauty! That is how a life should be lived. But what goes wrong is that he does that under the influence of temptation. It it like a yogis life minus awareness. Some might get awareness after losing (it is for fate to decide) These are the main side effects of gambling because of which it deserves to be banned, while it has many lessons for life hidden in it. Causing sorrow to the other man and thereby gaining happiness Causing loss of confidence in the other man to boast your confidence. These are dirty gambling!
