GenSan and Sarangani host 23rd Mindanao Business Conference “Growth Beyond Convergence” is the exciting theme of the upcoming 23rd Mindanao Business Conference (MINBIZCON) that both the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (GSCCCII) and Sarangani Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (SCCII) are hosting on September 1-3, 2014 in General Santos City. The MINBIZCON is the biggest gathering of business leaders of the various business sectors comprising the Mindanao Island. In 2009, GSCCCII hosted the same event with US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenny gracing the affair. 1,200 delegates participated in the event. This year’s conference theme fleshes out the intent to proactively anticipate the ASEAN integration by 2015. The conference does not limit its participants to businessmen alone but will likewise involve professional practitioners, academe, and government agencies in the ASEAN communities and their trading partners. ASEAN is composed of the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Trading partners include United States of America, China, India, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. The conference promises to be the initial, if not the first, taste towards the 2015 Economic Integration. It will be the convergence of stakeholders in the ASEAN region to rally behind integration thus, promoting shared economic prosperity and cooperative peace as we compete in the world economy. Everyone who comes will definitely look at their economic growth beyond convergence. Conference topics include pressing issues in the impending ASEAN integration: 1) Mindanao in the ASEAN Market; 2) ASEAN Trade Agreements; 3) ASEAN Market; 4) ASEAN Connectivity; 5) Energy Efficiency; 6) Financing Growth 7) Intellectual Property; and 8) Standards and Conformance. Speakers are experts and authorities of their chosen fields. 2-3 reactors from the ASEAN market will respond to an expert speaker. Both speakers and reactors will come from the ASEAN region. To promote MINBIZCON, seven (7) roadshows, dubbed as “One Mindanao Roadshow” (OMR) are set in the cities of General Santos, Cotabato, Kidapawan, Davao, Surigao Zamboanga, and Cagayan de Oro. This pre-conference event is designed to consult stakeholders in Mindanao on the ASEAN Economic Integration by 2015. This initiative of the private sector is in cooperation with Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).
