General Aviation Support Egypt - G.A.S.E. where asked by the Flight Of Ikarus to support their flight through Africa whilst they were still in Europe and only a couple of days away from Egypt. Other overflight companies baulked at the idea of supporting this flight, which gave the pilots the incentive to come to us. Eddie Gold and Ahmed Hassan Mohamed from GASE jumped at the chance to prove GASE was the best in the business and started work straight away arranging the route and clearances for what others thought would be an impossible endeavour. To be honest, trying to work out routes for a microlight with a 300nm range and cruise of 80 knots an hour was not going to be easy. But with the help of many of our African contacts we were able to procure permits, fuel, handling and accomodation for the whole of their route. On top of this we were also able to use our large network of contacts to give the crew some memorable moments that could only be provided by local people on the ground. The flight through Africa took in 9 countries - Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia and South Africa with many stops and overnights. We know the crew are massively impressed with our efforts and we can only thank the pilots, Richard Bird and Richard Foster, for their trust in us and for being such a pleasure to meet and work with. But it doesnt end there...they have to fly home in about a weeks time and GASE is already planning their route back with many more memorable surprises lined up The map of Africa shows the G.A.S.E. involvement through their route and stops.
