Gentlemen, I need your help. I am on the email list for the Charleston area alumni association and just received this email. It seems as one of the undergrads from SC Upsilon (University of South Carolina) recently passed away in a diving accident in Florida. The undergrad who passed away is from the Annapolis MD area and is having a funeral up here this Saturday, March 15th. The Charleston Alumni association has chartered buses up here for the undergrads to attend the funeral and they are now trying to secure housing for them. If you can help at all the contact is Athan Fokas and his email address is AthanFokas@gmail. Lets see if we cant do something to help out this chapter. Thanks everyone, attached is the emails I received. Gentlemen, Since the death of Brother Grant Eney, my plans have changed attend the funeral in Annapolis, Maryland this weekend but my obligations have not. I am indebted to the Hilton Head Alumni Association for adopting our local SAE Chapter and awarding one of our undergraduate brothers a trip to leadership school year after year. This years award will be given to Joseph Colella. Joe will not be able to attend because he will be in Annapolis, Maryland burying his SAE brother Grant Eney. I plan to have a video of him that will be projected on a screen where he will be thanking the Hilton Head Alumni Association for the award and he will say the True Gentlemen. I also plan to have a video of Dan Trexlor who was last years recipient thanking the Hilton Head Alumni Association for last years award and how and his trip to leadership school affected his leadership in the fraternity this past year. Before the death I had planned to travel to the Founders Day Dinner with my wife and five SAE Undergraduates and one of those undergraduates was Grant Eney. I need a few alumni to attend the Hilton Head Founders Day dinner at the Hilton Head Country Club in Hilton Head Plantation this Saturday so that we will be well represented. Start time is 6:00 pm with cocktails/appetizers in the main ballroom. Dinner will begin at 7:00 pm and of course it is a coat and tie event. Please let me know if you can make it for me. We have chartered two buses for all the SC Upsilon Brothers to attend the funeral. The buses cost us $9000.00 and we are now trying to secure housing. The donations to get these guys there have been pouring in and I thank you all. If you yet to contribute to this cause please send a check to SAE Alumni Association PO Box 13482 or pay on line at CharlestonSAE and dont worry about it saying dues. Ill know what it is for. Grant Eneys Dad sent me an email thanking us for all that we have done and are doing for his son. A small quote from Craig Eney:Grant loved his SAE chapter brothers. We are devastated as you can imagine. Fraternally yours, Athan Fokas Brothers, I was and am so shook up about this tragedy that I didnt put the full PO Box on the email I sent out last night. Its SAE Charleston Alumni PO Box 13482 Charleston SC 29422. The brothers had a get together last night and we heard so many stories how Grant affected their lives. The fifteen or so brothers that made it down to Key West before he died managed to have a grip circle with him while he was in the hospital. They said that Grants parents were so happy to hear that Grant had 40 new brothers in Charleston after losing his brother a couple of years ago and Grant couldnt stop talking about all his brothers in Charleston. Grants parents told all the SAEs not to lose touch with them because now that both their sons are gone, Grants new brothers are the only thing they have now. Sorry to have to bear this grieving news. All the brothers were telling their stories last night while crying in each others arms. May our dear brother rest in peace! Gentlemen, With great sadness I am informing you that we lost brother Grant Eney today. He was free diving for lobster in Florida with his family and must have blacked out and never recovered. Ive had the pleasure of knowing Grant since 2011. He was a great student and hard worker. He worked for me in my food booths at the Wildlife Festival two weeks ago and he was one of the hardest workers there and he told me that his dream was one day to open his own restaurant. He was also one of the SAEs who would have been traveling with me to Hilton Head this Saturday for the Hilton Head founders day dinner but instead he will be buried on that day. My heart goes out to his parents. They lost there oldest son two years ago to a motorcycle accident. Below is a quote of Grants about me page at the College of Charleston: I lost my brother in a motorcycle accident. He was my best friend and I think about him every day. Now I am here at school just trying to make my parents proud and live for both me and my brother. Very sad and what a tragedy! The entire chapter would like to go to his funeral in Annapolis, Maryland this Saturday and the cost will be somewhere around $8000.00. I am taking donations to help these guys bury their friend and brother. Please send your check to SAE Alumni Association PO Box 13482 Charleston SC 29422 or pay by credit card on line at CharlestonSAE. May Grant Eney rest in peace! Fraternally yours, Athan Fokas
