Getting soaked for a good cause Captain Paul Mendes accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and took a soaking from his patrol, traffic and communications divisions. Mendes also challenged his citywide coworkers to donate to charity and passed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge along to Carlsbad Police Sergeant Boyd (who immediately took the challenge), to an Escondido Police Department Captain and a Carlsbad Fire Department Division Chief. (A special note: With our ice bucket challenge we made sure we were water wise. The challenge was carried out on Wednesday, commercial watering day, on a slight hill in the vegetation area were the water would run off and benefit the plants.
