Ghana’s highest court has dismissed the case brought before it by the opposition New Patriotic Party, seeking to overturn a December 2012 elections that made the incumbent John Mahama president. Mahama’s win in an election largely considered peaceful and free, was challenged by an unhappy opposition led by its candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo, and headed straight to court. After some eight months of courtroom chess, the Ghanaian people finally get to know the validity or otherwise of Mahama. Spontaneous celebrations from supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) greeted the court’s verdict.
