Giving, Receiving and Joy Im a gift-giver! and some of you know - TopicsExpress

Giving, Receiving and Joy Im a gift-giver! and some of you know that because youve received packages, cards, hand-written letters, and boxes in the mail. Sometimes it uniquely Canadian items like Hawkins Cheezies, or a tiny statue or a book(s), sometimes its a CD that made me think of you and at other times its a short note or my very wordy letters. I think some of my fondest memories as a child were the trips to the post office to mail letters to my penpals and the delicious surprise of receiving letters from them, too. Georg used to chuckle almost every Monday and Friday morning (my post office days) when Id pack up the little gifts and go on my way to the post office, but what I remember most of all is the first time I came home from the post office and I realized he was smiling ear-to-ear watching me ever so slowly open letters and packages. Ill add here that the bills went into a completely different pile and there was not much enthusiasm for those... ;-) A little ritual started where I would come home for my trek to the post office and Georg would make tea for the two of us and hed sit quietly and watch me open mail. I know it might seem odd, but he was acknowledging my childlike nature and honouring the joy that brought him. Its funny really, but I still have that little ritual and although Georgs physical body is no longer present for the experience, I can feel that this simple gesture of being fully present for the opening, is filled with his joy.
