Global Communities-Haïti continues to make good progress repairing road and improving neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The rehabilitation of the North Alexis Street is the largest road infrastructure project undertaken through the World Bank-funded Reconstruction Project for Disadvantaged Areas (PREKAD) program. For years, the street was home to a public market, but its poor condition made it nearly impassable for vehicles over most of its length. Even pedestrians found it difficult to traverse because of its state of degradation and steep slopes. The newly paved and upgrade road now has gutters to promote adequate drainage, sidewalks for pedestrians and street lighting as well.
