Glorify Your Name “I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all - TopicsExpress

Glorify Your Name “I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart, I will glorify your name forever” (Psalm 86:12). When we pray for the Father in heaven to be hallowed, we are in fact lining up with God’s purposes to destroy the influence of another power-sphere. We are declaring that God’s name will expel the rule of evil from earth itself. We are lining our lives up with God’s purposes to destroy all the works of the devil, to cast out all hatred, all animosity, all despair, all disease, all meaningless suffering, to remove all things that subvert or oppose God’s true rule and destroy people. In the end, to pray this prayer is to cast out Satan himself through the proclamation that Jesus died for us and rose again to become the risen Lord. To pray “Glorify Your name” is to assert that all of our lives be put on the line to destroy evil everywhere, up to and including following Christ in the offering of ourselves in martyrdom. –Taken from Power Praying (Hearing Jesus’ Spirit by Praying Jesus’ Prayer) by David Chotka Jesus, I glorify Your name! Help me to line up my life with Your purposes so that the works of the devil will be destroyed in my life, and in the lives of others. As I yield myself to Your Spirit, use me to encourage those who are downtrodden, and use my gifts and resources lift up those who suffer. Prayer Points Praise the Lord, the source of all song, and make music to his name. Thank God for his love in the morning and for his faithfulness at night (Ps. 92:1-2). Confess that you sometimes sing by rote. Commit yourself to focusing on what you sing. Ask to feel God’s presence through music today. Pray that through the music, message, prayers, and sacraments, your congregation will feel one in body and spirit (Eph. 4:3-4) as it gathers to worship. Prayer Pointer “We must try to converse with God in little ways while we do our work; not in memorized prayer, not trying to recite previously formed thoughts. Rather, we should purely and simply reveal our hearts as the words come to us.” —Brother Lawrence –Prayer Points taken from Patterns for Prayer by Alvin VanderGriend Taken from Power Praying (Hearing Jesus’ Spirit by Praying Jesus’ Prayer) by David Chotka Posted in Devotions on September 24, 2013 |
