Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (Matthew 28:19) Evangelism The only way to effectively maintain and grow a business is to make sure that the main thing remains the main thing. General motors makes motor vehicles, while General Mills makes cereal in general. General Electric generalizes in making electronic equipment, and the general purpose of the church is to produce generals in making disciples. Great leaders are mandated by a great mission statement. They greatly understand that their great commitment is to promote the great commission. When a pastor meets with his membership one of the elephants in the room is discipleship. How many times does a congregation have to be reminded that one of the major purposes for them being saved is to bring others into salvation? Pastors are simply shepherds. It has been said, Shepherds don’t give birth to sheep; sheep beget sheep. Nevertheless the preoccupation of too many pastors is preaching to, fundraising for, and putting out the fires of his people who have gotten involved in religious activities which have nothing to do with the main thing, evangelism. Evangelism is a vital part of kingdom business because it’s prompted by the influence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is who draws people. In turn, people under the influence of the Holy Spirit influence other people to be partakers of the Spirit, and the church continues to grow. When the chain of evangelism is broken the stunting of the church is inevitable. Please leave the stuntmen and stuntwomen in Hollywood. The Kingdom has no academy awards for actors in the church; just crowns for those who are active in evangelism. Are you great at following the great prompting of the Holy Spirit to produce great disciples? Well, great! Maybe God is trying to make you into a great leader! Great leaders are mandated by a great mission statement. They greatly understand that their great commitment is to promote the great commission. Today let’s remember, there is no reference in the New Testament on how to run a building program, capital campaign, or church growth seminar. And Jesus never judged a church by the size of its headcount or its headquarters, but by the size of its heart. Let’s pray that we keep the main thing the main thing. When we do so the existing nonsensical fires of our local churches will be quenched by the fires of evangelism. ______________________ Today’s Activities: 1. Evaluate organizationally whether past, present, priority, passion, plans, projections, personnel, and provision exists for evangelism to take place effectively 2. Truthfully judge whether the desire to do evangelism exists in you 3. Identify those among you who are actively involved in doing evangelism 4. Connect and commit to working with others who are expanding the kingdom _________________________ Have comments? You can reach Glenn Usry at gusry.fdd@gmail The Anatomy of a Great Leader ©2014
