Going through REFTRA (Refresher Training) in GTMO Cuba under the intense scrutiny of the Fleet Training Group (FTG), we only had Sundays off to hit the beach and have a beer or forty. This one particular Sunday we had finished our cooler full of beer and were heading back to the ship when one of my drunken buddies had the idea of capturing one of these nasty GTMO crabs. We somehow managed to corral one of these monsters into the cooler and sneak it past the QD watch. So now the question is, what do we do with it? Put it in the CPO Mess? No, bad idea, wed certainly be found out and punished severely. How about the XOs stateroom? Everyone hated the XO and wed be heroes! Great idea. So we sneak up to the XOs stateroom, knock on the door, no answer and its unlocked! In goes Mr. Crab. We all go running down to berthing snickering over the practical joke we just pulled off. Hit our racks to sleep it off and never gave it another thought until the next morning when all hell is breaking loose. Turns out the XO came back to the ship drunk and got up in the morning to take a shower. Surprise surprise our hungover XO found the crab in his shower and about had a heart attack. Needless to say liberty was secured for the following Sunday and beyond for al E-6 and below. We never said a word about our crabby deed.
