Golden Jubilee event marks Celebration with felicitation function at BITS Pilani Pilani, August 31, 2014: BITS Pilani has grown steadily in the last fifty years and is now a multi-campus university with over 11000 on-campus and over 21,000 off-campus students. Over the last 5 years, BITS Pilani has undertaken a spectrum of initiatives to drive excellence in both academic and non-academic areas. These initiatives are being carried out by a number of teams / individuals at various departments, divisions and units across the campuses. On the occasion of felicitation programme for teaching and non-teaching staff who had served 25 years or more as part of Golden Jubilee celebration BITS Pilani, Prof B.N.Jain, Vice Chancellor, welcomed all dignitaries who had rendered selfless services and went on to highlight achievements of BITS, Pilani and its future plans. He also talked about the challenges that BITS Pilani has been facing in going forward. The Vice Chancellor informed that BITS Pilani offers undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD programmes in sciences, engineering, pharmacy, management and social sciences to over 11,500 students from its four campuses in Pilani, Dubai, Goa and Hyderabad. BITS Pilani was, in 2005, the first institution in India to conduct BITSAT, an online examination for undergraduate admissions. But, more importantly, it has conducted BITSAT every year for the last ten years without any disruption. Further, he went on to mention two out of seven imperatives that have been taken up as part of Mission 2015 and specifically highlighted “Technology enablement” and Quality Assessment and Assurance. initiatives undertaken by BITS Pilani. The other imperatives being Faculty and Staff Development, Industry Engagement, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Internationalization, and Inter-disciplinary Research. Various projects or programmes currently under implementation together with those proposed under Mission 2015 are part of a large plan to ensure the growth of the students body significantly over the next decade, while transforming BITS Pilani into one of the India’s finest science and technology institution. Prof G. Raghurama, Director BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus shared his views with the audience about the transformation of Pilani campus through modernization of its physical infrastructure. He said a new academic building is built that has several architectural innovations, and a new students hostel, a new workshop building and a new faculty housing complex are nearing completion. He thanked all the invited elders who had done remarkable jobs in their fields. Prof. K.E. Raman in his address mentioned about the expansion of Goa campus. He informed the audience that he got the sanction of substantial amount from Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chancellor, BITS, Pilani to increase the branches of disciplines and infrastructure. Prof. V S Rao, Director, Hyderabad Campus spoke on the occasion about the achievements of Hyderabad campus. He said the secret of success of BITS, Pilani campuses lies in its heritage, culture, values, dedication and devotion of faculty and of course the modernization of campuses, inspiration and direction given by the elder faculties. Prof. R.N. Saha, Director, Dubai Campus said Dubai Campus will also be connected with others campuses of BITS, Pilani through teleconferencing and the exchange of faculty and students in the near future. Prof. Sunder, Director, Off Campus Programs talked about the growth plan of Practice school and Work Integrated Learning Program of BITS, Pilani. Prof R K Mittal, Director, Special Projects shared the information about the newly setup cell of Institutional Knowledge and Analysis (IKA Cell). In the evening a grand felicitation programme for those who had served 25 years or more was held highlighting their significant contribution to the growth and achievements of BITS Pilani. A classical music and dance programme was also conducted by Ragamalika Group on the occasion. A few awardees Shri A.N. Bhargava, Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Prof. Vijay V. Mandke and Prof. T.S.K.V. Iyers daughter also shared their memories and achievements of BITS, Pilani.
