Good Morning, Today is the first day of Lent, the church season - TopicsExpress

Good Morning, Today is the first day of Lent, the church season leading up to Easter. It is commonly known as Ash Wednesday. For some reason I always associate Lent with Jesus heading into the wilderness immediately after His baptism and right at the start of His public ministry. It is interesting that Jesus began and ended His ministry with intense suffering which He willingly chose. When I consider denying myself food for a day or two, my mind immediately comes up with many reasons it is not a good idea. Yet Jesus headed into the wilderness / desert and went 40 days without food. Amazing! I see that one reason He did this was to be alone with the Father in preparation for what was ahead. Another was to face and resist the strongest temptation satan could through at Him. But still another reason was so He could relate to us in our most difficult times. When we suffer we can be assured that our Lord and Savior has also suffered. He can fully identify with being in want, being hungry, feeling weak, tempted to complain, etc. When Satan showed up at the end of 40 days to tempt Him, Jesus had to be in as weakened a state as a human can be. At the first offer of food I am afraid I would have caved. But Jesus gives three crucial statements that well look at over the next three days. Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Do not put the Lord your God to the test. Worship the Lord your God and Him alone. Have a blessed day and may you be a blessing in someones life today.
